Demetria Chappo makes hand-sculpted home objects and sculptures with an emphasis on intricate surface details, organic and architectural form, and universal symbolism.
Influenced by nature, science, water, and ordinary objects, her patterns and textures are meant to provoke the senses and bring good energy.
She sells across the US and internationally. Her work has been featured in New York Magazine, Architectural Digest, Martha Stewart Weddings, among others.
She co-founded Brooklyn Clay Tour, a city-wide week of ceramic events, exhibits and shows.
She creates every piece by hand, pinching, rolling slabs, coiling and throwing on the wheel. After she forms the clay she paints, draws or carves into it creating intricate surfaces. Then its glazed and she fires it in a kiln over 2200 degrees.
She loves the tactility and versatility of clay. She has always been inspired by organic and architectural objects, combining texture and pattern with symbolic references.
